When you write about a walk, say which day it was and what you expected to see. Please don't send your route or screenshots of a map unless you want to.
Getting started
What Dally asks to use, and why
- Location draws your route while you walk. Dally asks for it on your first walk. Out for a walk? needs Always; Dally asks only if you turn it on.
- Motion & Fitness counts your steps, on your iPhone.
- Apple Health saves your walks as workouts and adds a watch's steps and heart rate.
- Notifications are only for nudges, at most one a day, and only if you say yes.
You can see each one in Dally's Settings › Permissions. iPhone only lets an app ask once, so to change one later, use the Open Settings button there.
Do I need an account?
No. Walking, hops, stamps and journeys all work without one. Dally asks you to sign in with Apple only when you add a person or join a road with friends.
Does it work on a treadmill or indoors?
Yes. Before you start, pick Outside, Treadmill or Indoors (at home or the office). Indoor kilometres come from your steps, so they're shown as "about", with no map and no stamps.
Does it work without a watch?
Yes. Your iPhone counts steps and draws the route. An Apple Watch or a Garmin adds heart rate through Apple Health, and fills in steps if the phone missed some.
Walks
My walk stopped, or the app closed
Dally saves a walk on your iPhone as it goes. If it closes in the middle, open it again: it asks whether to carry on or finish the walk, and nothing recorded so far is lost.
A walk has fewer kilometres than I expected
Dally spots parts in a tram, car or train and asks whether to take them out: Take it out or Keep it. GPS wander indoors doesn't count either. The steps still count.
A walk from my watch shows up without a map
A walk recorded on a watch alone comes in from Apple Health as a watch walk. It gets a map only when Apple Health holds the route for it. Some watches don't send their routes to Apple Health.
How do I delete a walk?
Open the walk, scroll to the end, and tap Delete this walk. You can choose whether its workout in Apple Health goes too (Also remove from Apple Health).
Your data
Save a copy of my walks
You › Settings › Your data › Export my walks makes a GPX file of every walk and hands it to the share sheet. Nothing is uploaded.
Delete everything on this phone
You › Settings › Your data › Delete everything on this phone removes your walks, routes, places, stamps and journeys from Dally on this iPhone. What Dally saved to Apple Health stays there. Export first if you want to keep a copy.
Delete your account
When you're signed in, You › Settings › Your data › Delete your account deletes your account and everything Dally keeps about you online. The walks on your iPhone stay. If you can't open the app, email us from the address you signed in with and we'll delete it for you.
Hide where I live
Settings › Privacy zones lets you mark up to three places. Any part of a walk inside one is never drawn on a picture you share. The first and last 200 m are always left off too.
More in the privacy policy.
Easier reading
Settings › Reading › Easy-read text sets every word in Lexend, a font made for easier reading. Dally also follows your iPhone's text size.
